April 2024 Five Star Reads

April 2024

Better late than never – here are the four books I read in April that I absolutely loved and recommend that you should read! Every one of these books was available for free on the Libby app through my local public library. If you don’t have a library card at your local library, GET ONE! You can often get them without leaving the house. If you have to leave the house, I promise you that librarians are there because they want everyone in the municipality to check out loads of books because that gives them job security (and often, personal satisfaction)!

Heaven, Texas by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (Chicago Stars, #2)

Heaven, Texas was first published in 2009, as the second book in the Chicago Stars Romance series by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I love her books, they’ve always got fantastic dialogue and highly eccentric characters. There are still books being published in this series, most recently “When Stars Collide.” I’m working my way through the books, and you should too!

An Hour Before Daylight: Memories of a Rural Boyhood, by Jimmy Carter

As of July 2024, this book is available for free for Kindle Unlimited subscribers. I listened on audio, and found that Jimmy Carter narrating brought the imagery to life. It was a wonderful listen, full of nostalgia and the history of common folks in the United States South before desegregation.
